How do you accrue pension?

A. AOW: this is the pension you receive from the government

The AOW is the statutory state pension. You accrue AOW pension over 50 years. You only accrue AOW pension if you reside and/or work in the Netherlands. The age at which you receive AOW pension depends on your date of birth. The AOW age is namely set to rise over the next few years. The amount is also not the same for everyone. Refer to the website of the Sociale Verzekeringsbank (Social Insurance Bank) www.svb.nl to see your AOW age. The AOW amounts are adjusted each year. 

Please note: If you have not always lived and/or worked in the Netherlands, your AOW pension could be lower.
